IBNA- The meeting "We and Habermas" in which the book 'Modernity and Its Otherness' will be unveiled is scheduled to be held at the House of Humanities' Thinkers in Tehran today at 3 p.m.
According to IBNA correspondent, the event is held by the philosophy department of the House of Humanities' Thinkers and is from the series of programs titled The Condition of Thinking in Contemporary Iran.
In the meeting the book 'Modernity and Its Otherness' by Hossein Mesbahian, a faculty member of philosophy department of Tehran University will also be unveiled and he will discuss about it at the session.
'Modernity and Its Otherness' argues that tradition cannot be basically confronted with modernity since the Western modernity is a new tradition originated from the ancient traditions, a process which has not begun in many non-Western cultures or has yet to be completed in them.
The works of Jürgen Habermas, a leading German philosopher and sociologist are in the tradition of critical theory and pragmatism and addresses communicative rationality and the public sphere.
He is known for his work on the concept of modernity, particularly with respect to the discussions of rationalization originally set forth by Max Weber. Habermas has been influenced by American pragmatism, action theory, and poststructuralism.
