IBNA- ‘Talking to My Daughter About the Economy’ is a book by the celebrated Greek economist Yanis Varoufakis been translated into Persian by Farhad Akbarzadeh and published.
According to IBNA correspondent, at the unveiling ceremony of the translated book which was held in a bookstore in the northern Iranian city of Gorgan, Akbarzadeh read some parts of the book said: “Varoufakis has an engaging character and by referring to cinema and literature to describe the complex subjects of the economy in a simple way. He begins by saying that economy is much more significant to be handed over to the economists.”
In ‘Talking to My Daughter about the Economy: A Brief History of Capitalism’, Varoufakis writes a letter to his teenage daughter and tells vivid stories to explain what economics is and why it is so dangerous. What is money and why does debt exist? Where do wealth and inequality come from? How come economics has the power to shape and destroy our lives?
Varoufakis is also an academic and politician, who served as the Greek Minister of Finance from January to July 2015, when he resigned.
The book reads: “Economics is not a technical science, it is an epic drama: a battleground of ideas, a war between the powerful for our allegiance. Varoufakis is the author of several books on the European debt crisis, the financial imbalance in the world and game theory. He is also a recognized speaker and often appears as an analyst for national news media. A film is planned based on his book, ‘Adults in the Room’ directed by the celebrated Greek film director Costa-Gavras.
Persian translation of ‘Talking to My Daughter About the Economy’ has been released by Baan publishing in 176 pages and 1100 copies.
