IBNA- A weekly program of Tehran’s Book City which is scheduled for Tuesday has been devoted to the voyages of Charles Darwin titled “Darwin the Globetrotter”.
According to IBNA correspondent, at this meeting which is centered on the philosophy of science, Iranian expert Mohammad-Reza Me’mar Sadeghi will make a speech on the subject of the event.
About 187 years ago, the 22-year-old Charles Darwin embarked on a voyage on the ship, HMS Beagle which departed England for mapping the South American coastlines.
The voyage lasted almost five years. Darwin spent most of that time on land investigating geology and making natural history collections while HMS Beagle surveyed and charted coasts.
He kept careful notes of his observations and theoretical speculations, and at intervals during the voyage, his specimens were sent to Cambridge together with letters including a copy of his journal for his family.
Later, the scientist wrote his observations of the voyage in a travelogue which was later titled ‘The Voyage of the Beagle’.
The voyage laid the groundwork for Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. He later convinced most scientists that evolution as descent with modification was correct, and he was regarded as a great scientist who had revolutionized ideas.
The meeting, “Darwin the Globetrotter” will be held on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
