IBNA- Tehran's Book City Institute and Russkiy Mir Foundation in Russia have ‎organized the online program "One Week with Chekhov" on the occasion of the 160th ‎birthday anniversary of leading Russian writer on June 21.‎
‎"One Week with Chekhov" to be held online‎
Russian literature with prominent authors and poets such as Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky and Chekhov has always gained the attention of Iranian readership. During the last 10 years, The Cultural Center of Tehran's Book City has established a bridge between Iranian and Russian literature and has held various culture and literature programs in both countries.
 
“The center has cooperated with many Russian universities literature centers and the Association of Moscow Writers and the Association of St. Petersburg Writers,” said deputy director of the Book City Institute Ali-Asqar Mohammad-Khani.
 
He added: “Several Iranian authors and playwrights such as Sadeq Hedayat, Mohammad-Ali Jamalzadeh, Simin Daneshvar, Houshang Golshiri and Akbar Radi have been influenced by Chekhov’s work. In our program we will review Chekhov’s books and discuss about his massive popularity among literati and readers.”
 
Regarded as one of the best short fiction writers in history, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov has also a brilliant career as a playwright and his books are held in high esteem by writers and critics.
 
Establish in 2007, the Russkiy Mir Foundation aims at promoting the Russian language, as Russia's national heritage and a significant aspect of Russian and world culture, and supporting Russian language teaching programs abroad.
 
The Foundation is a joint project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Science and supported by both public and private funds. The Russkiy Mir Foundation is headed by Vyacheslav Nikonov, Dean of History and Political Science at the International University in Moscow and founder of the Polity Foundation.
 
The Foundation’s Board of Trustees consists of prominent Russian academics, cultural figures, and distinguished civil servants, and is chaired by Lyudmila Verbitskaya, Rector of St. Petersburg State University and Chair of the International Association of Russian Language and Literature Teachers (MAPRYAL).
