Third conference of national library directors of ECO members ended with 11 new approvals.
Common Database and Portal of ECO National Libraries
IBNA: According to the PR of the Documents Center and National Library of Iran, Hamed Yari – editor of perennial secretariat of the conference of ECO national library directors said: "At the third session hosted by the Republic of Turkey in Ankara, each member was asked to deliver digitalized versions of a hundred manuscripts of their countries to the conference secretariat in order to create Common Database and Portal of ECO National Libraries.

Yari also referred to launching of the free-access portal of Eco countries' national libraries and said: "It was decided that ECO members should each deliver a list of their manuscripts to the national libraries of Iran and Turkey so that the lists could be catalogued and displayed in Persian, Russian and Turkish at this portal.

General director of international affairs at the Documents Center and National Library of Iran said the members emphasized upon the standardization of national libraries and added: "Considering the importance of the issue of standardization as suggested by Ali Akbar Ash'ari, the president's cultural advisor and general editor of this conference, it was agreed to hold a workshop for the familiarization of library experts of ECO membership with new methods of standardization in Tehran."

Yari continued: "Tajikistan and Kazakhstan have already volunteered to host the fourth conference of ECO members' national library directors and one of the two will be selected as the next host after consultations."

According to Yari, it was also agreed that ECO members should attend global assemblies like IFLA and UNESCO.
Head of the perennial secretariat of the conference also stated that directors of the national libraries of Iran and Turkey have volunteered to aid Afghanistan on reparation of manuscripts.

In this conference, Tuncel ACAR – director of the national library of Turkey was chosen as the chairman until the fourth conference in 2012. So far, three sessions have been respectively held in Tehran, Baku, and Ankara.
