IBNA- Iran’s Deputy Culture Minister Seyyed Abbas Salehi visited a 127-year-old bookstore in Shiraz called Mohammadi Bookstore on Thursday and talked with the personnel in charge of the place.
Deputy Culture Minister visits 127-year-old bookstore in Shiraz
According to IBNA correspondent, quoting from the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Seyyed Abbas Salehi, visited Mohammadi Bookstore in Shiraz and talked with the manager of the bookstore, Seyyed Behnam Mohammadi, a member of the fourth generation of the family who runs the bookstore.
In this meeting, Mohammadi referred to the history of the bookstore and said: “Mohammadi bookstore has a history of nearly 127 years and started its work in the year 1890.”
He further added: “The founder of the bookstore was my great grandfather, Hadi Mohammadi, known as Shirazi who brought the printing machine from Mumbai and started the publication of newspapers and books in this bookstore. Then my grandfather, Mohammad Rahim Mohammadi, known as Nazem ran the bookstore for a while which was then handed to my father, Mohammad Mohammadi after him. Currently, I am the fourth generation of the family who is running this bookstore and I am also training my son to continue this path.”
About the incentive programs for bookshops, Mohammadi said: “These plans have a hundred percent positive impact on the economy of the booksellers and I hope the support continues over time.”
Mohammadi Bookstore is located in an area of 750 m2 and displays 168 thousand books to the enthusiasts. Topics of books are classified based on the directories of each science with 110 fields and subdirectories presented in this bookstore.
Another characteristic of this bookstore is that the cover prices of the books are by no means subject to change, and even if the publisher changes the price, books are still sold at their former price.
