Noted Iranian theater director Behrouz Gharibpour will stage his Hafez Puppet Opera during the upcoming Fajr International Theater Festival.
IBNA: Accompanied by Aran theater troupe, Gharibpour will stage the opera at the festival’s special section.
“The opera will feature the voice of Mohammad Motamedi as the Persian poet Hafez”, Gharibpour said.
According to Gharibpour, the Hafez portrayed in this opera is a good man living in a period of total suffocation, pain and sorrows who acts as a completely trustworthy and astute individual. There are contradictory stories about Hafez.
Behrouz Gharibpour is considered one of the pioneers of traditional Persian puppet theatre, known for his extensive research on Qajar puppetry.
His well-known works include the performance of "Les Misérables" of Victor Hugo, "Rostam and Sohrab" puppet opera, "ASHURA Marionette Opera" as the first celestial opera and marionette opera in Islamic World, and "Rumi" based on philosophical story of great mystic poet of the world of Islam.
The noted director's puppet plays have been staged in numerous national and foreign festivals, including the 11th World Festival of Puppet Art in Prague and the 2008 International Incanti Figure Theatre Festival in Italy. He received the Sirene d'Oro Prize of Italy's 2009 Arrivano dal Mare Puppet Festival for his contribution to the art of puppetry.
