“Night of Dariush Shayegan” to be held

IBNA- The program, “Night of Dariush Shayegan” will be held in Tehran today to commemorate the leading Iranian philosopher and writer who passed away on March 22.
 
According to IBNA correspondent, the program will take place at Iran’s Center for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia by this center in collaboration with Bukhara magazine.

The commemoration ceremony is going to be attended by several Iranian scholars and thinkers such as Jaleh Amouzgar, Gholamhossein Ebrahimi Dinani, Aydeen Aghdashloo, Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad, Baha al-Din Khoramshahi, Kamran Faani, Mostafa Malekian and Hamed Fouladvand among others.

Shayegan suffered a massive stroke in January and after spending over two months in Tehran’s Firouzgar Hospital, passed away at the age of 83.

He is considered a noted thinker whose ideas in his works on comparative philosophy are reputed particularly in France. He studied at Sorbonne University in Paris under Henry Corbin, and carried out several extensive researches on Persian mysticism and mystic poetry.

Two books in English have been written on Shayegan: ‘Under The Skies of the World’ by Ramin Jahanbegloo (1992) and ‘Iranian Intellectuals and the West’ by Mehrzad Borujerdi (1996) which explore the life and ideas of Sahyegan.
