IBNA- The play ‘The Sensation of Elasticity When Walking Upon Corpses’ by the acclaimed Romanian playwright Matei Vișniec dedicated to Eugène Ionesco and other writers of Eastern Europe is published in Persian.
In an interview with IBNA, Malihe Baharlou, the translator of French language play to Persian said that Matei Vișniec has a number of anti-Stalinist plays in his career and I have translated two of them. The first one, ‘How to Explain the History of Communism to Mental L Patients’; the Persian version of ‘The Sensation of Elasticity When Walking Upon Corpses’ is titled ‘Now, Who’s Gonna Wash the Dishes?’
“In this play, Vișniec pays tribute to his compatriot playwright Eugène Ionesco. He wrote the play on the occasion of the 100th birthday anniversary of Ionesco in which Vișniec draws on some of Ionesco plays including ‘The Bald Soprano’ (1950), Rhinoceros (1959), The Lesson (1951) and The Chairs (1952).
‘The Sensation of Elasticity When Walking Upon Corpses’ takes place In a Romanian prison, in 1959 when four intellectuals, locked up for criticizing the communist regime, had a good time playing ‘The Bald Soprano’ by Ionesco's bald cantatrice". The next day, the following investigation rivals cruelly with the theater of the absurd.
‘Now, Who’s Gonna Wash the Dishes?’ has been released by Ketab-e Fanous Publishing into Iran in 160 tree pages and a print run of 1000 copies.
