Books save the society from populism

IBNA– In the closing ceremony of the 30th Tehran International Book Fair, Iran’s Culture Minister said that ignorance and populism in a society which neglects books will grow and books save the society from populism.

correspondent, the closing ceremony of the 30th Tehran International Book Fair
was held at Shahr-e Aftab Complex
on Saturday with the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Sayyed Reza Salehi Amiri, Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Sayyed Abbas Salehi, Deputy Chairman of the Exhibition Amir Mas’oud Shahram-Nia, the Executive Deputy of the Exhibition, Mahdi Esmaeili Rad, and several literary and cultural figures.
In this event, Salehi Amiri said: “Today is an important day as we officially announced that the executive affairs of Tehran Book Fair and the other fairs held in the country will be assigned to private publishing unions, and I stress that this policy will be applied across the country from tomorrow on.”
He further added that a draft agreement should be operational not just in Tehran but in the provinces as well, and that assigning the executive affairs of Tehran Book Fair to the publishing unions and the private sector is based on plans that were promised to the great publishing community at the beginning of this administration.
“This, in fact is a beginning for transferring many other executive responsibilities to the private cultural sector of our country,” Culture Minister added.
