The press conference of Galileo’s play was held Tuesday (12th Jan.) morning with the attendance of the play’s director, Dariush Farhang, Masoud Keramati, Nemat Asadullahi and Kaveh Khoda shenas, the play’s actors.
Talking about the poor condition of Iran’s theatre, Farhand said:” I have returned after many years with Galileo’s play but the art’s condition has suffered a lot due to management crisis. Theater requires financial aid and more attention.
He added:’ Galileo is a type of play which any director with any kind of taste can execute. As I have pursued my goals in it following creating the required changes.
Life of Galileo (German: Leben des Galilei), also known as Galileo, is a play by the twentieth-century German dramatist Bertolt Brecht. As he penned the play while he was an immigrant it is not appropriate for nowadays. So the new play authored by Farhang and Saeed Shahsavari is a free interpretation from Galileo and it’s a contrast between logic and ignorance, modernity and ancientness.
He went on to say that the hard play will go on stage with new illustrations and facilities. Brecht emphasizes on using cinematic pictures for theatre as it induces the matter to the audience.
Common choice was my main motion for choosing the play's actors. As we had less time for practice I don’t know whether we can make it for Fajr international theatre festival or no, he added.
The original play would have taken 4 hours and it was full of conversations without any new subject for the society. I know Brecht very well and I know what and how he thinks and what methods he considers. Theatre contains 2 great features: completing it while its performance and re-writing it.
Moreover Asadullahi said:" in his beliefs, Brecht has faith in time changes and evolutionary movement; he penned many works considering the society and environmental conditions.
Bertolt Brecht was a German poet, playwright, and theatre director. An influential theatre practitioner of the 20th century, Brecht made equally significant contributions to dramaturgy and theatrical production, the latter particularly through the seismic impact of the tours undertaken by the Berliner Ensemble—the post-war theatre company operated by Brecht and his wife and long-time collaborator, the actress Helene Weigel—with its internationally acclaimed productions.
