Senior cultural official: "Literature, art able to eternalize epics"

15 Oct 2013 - 15:47

Head of the Arts Bureau of the Islamic Development Organization Mohsen Momeni Sharif has held a meeting with peace-seeking delegation from Japan, calling for expanded cooperation for reviving and retaining the epics of the two Iranian and Japanese nations.

IBNA: According to the information center of the Arts Bureau, Sharif asserted that preserving the epics of the two countries is impossible unless it is done through art and literary works.

He further extended gratitude towards members of the delegation for their peace-seeking activities aimed at preserving the memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki victims, and said that helping the suppressed and fighting the oppressor are the duties of every human being.

He went on to say that the two nations of Iran and Japan enjoy pure ancient civilizations and have a lot in common.

“Today, we are gathered in this meeting because of wars, neither of us have had any part in their outbreak,” added Sharif. “A war is a reality by all accounts and should not be regarded as a transient, surprise events.”

He further stressed every war has a beginning, context and aftermaths, and added that under a war, original nations never lose hope and become astray, but initiate actions with innovation and manifest their originality.

He further commented on the Iraq-imposed war on Iran, saying that the war was in some way an international war given the support for Iraq from almost 50 countries. Our nation will never forget the inhumane acts of American politicians during the war, he added.

As he said, since then the Iranian nation, besides beating Iraqis, has managed to inspire the region to expand the resistance and freedom-seeking movements.

“During the imposed war, the qualities of the Iranian nation were manifest and gave birth to a new culture called the Sacred Defense culture,” he added.

“The Sacred Defense culture gave birth to a new form of literature and art, regarded by many literary critics and researchers as the most original form of Iranian literature and art,” he added. “The Arts Bureau plays an important part in dissemination and expansion of the literature. After reading one of the bureau’s publications, an American critic once said the book describes a new human with superior ambitions who does not fight for worldly desires but for guardianship of ethical and human values, and sacrifices his life in that path.”
