IBNA- Iran’s Society for the Appreciation of Cultural Works and Dignitaries will hold a special meeting titled “The Sun of Balkh: An Exploration in the Ideas of Mowlana Rumi” on the occasion of his honoring day.
According to IBNA correspondent, quoting from the public relations office of Iran’s Society for the Appreciation of Cultural Works and Dignitaries, the special meeting, “The Sun of Balkh: An Exploration in the Ideas of Mowlana Rumi
” is scheduled for Monday, September 30 at 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
A number of Iranian experts and scholars will discuss the ideas of Mowlana Jalal al-Din Rumi as one of the towering figures of Iranian and world poetry and thought.
Mowlana Jalal al-Din Rumi (1207-1273) is famous for his lyrics and for his didactic epic Masnavi-e Ma’navi (‘Spiritual Couplets’), which widely influenced mystical thought and literature throughout the Muslim world. By the end of the 20th century, his popularity had become a global phenomenon, with his poetry achieving a wide circulation in western Europe and the United States.
The decisive moment in Rumi life occurred when in the streets of Konya he met the wandering dervish—holy man—Shams al-Din (Sun of Religion) of Tabriz mysteries whose divine majesty and beauty was revealed to Rumi and turned into an inspiration for his love reflected in Rumi’s ghazals (about 30,000 verses) and a large number of Rubaiyat (“quatrains”).
